Captain’s Log – Day 1169: Ahoy are we there yet! Is Raat ki Subjha Nehi

Captain's Log - Day 1169: Ahoy are we there yet! Is Raat ki Subjha Nehi

Yes, are we there yet. Thats something people ask me and i am asking myself now.

The situation: I got publisher. A big one – Niyogi Books -www.niyogibooks.com – Yayyyy!

The news: Been told it will release next year, hopefully early next year

The truth: Shrek’s Donkey keep asking me “are where there yet?”

My Answer: Thaam gadhedar Bheem Thaam! (Patience…patience)

No things are moving in steps. So this is the update from my side:
(A) Working on the website, and developing it as comphrehensive as i can. Do comment on the attached landing page sameple Bombers!
(B) Had a great time, made new friends and learnt new things from BWW (Bangalore Writer’s Workshop), and had second best teachers – Bhumika and Rheea (my biggest fav is still my phyisics teacher from school). BWW will help on the developing the writing of the webpages. Yahooo!
(C) Reworked and now need to reboot – Svastik Trilogy: Dwitya, The Consultant -Shopno Paradox

More on part two as i progress ahead. But things are staked against me.

And oh yes… i am going to home to Delhi and three weeks in the chilling weather.
Let the bombs begin.

PS: Do share your commnets on the landing page (dummy and and sample)

Captain’s Log – Day 919: Tense time! Need investors.

Right now on day 919, and i have many rejections by now. Why am I not tensed… well i have a back up plan and a back up plan to that 🙂

Team Clark has two new partners. Two lovely ladies, who will help me out in the final proofreading and smoothing of the manuscript. Its 95300 words now, and flow in much much better than what i ever dream off. Thanks for various comments, criticism and feedback it has reached this stage.

One author , who book recently released also went through the manuscript and mentioned  that he is highly impressed by the research and things do fall into place in the end. However he advised some changes which i am taking into account and working on it…. some areas the tenses are not right and shifts present. So changing those few areas also.

A vendor has been selected to develop the website site and am spending close of Rs. 1 lakh on it. Yes its a lot, but am serious around the concept. The website will be interactive for both readers and new authors.

The biggest challenge now is the cover page. Am in touch with three different artists who will develop different concepts. Once done I will release it for getting feedback. Out of 4 options will select one final. The issue…funding. Too streched….any investors around 🙂

Captain’s Log – Day 832: Editing (part1), you are DOOMED without editing, as I found out!

What you have written may be good, but not the best. But what happens if, what you right is not the best in terms of grammar, syntax and other writing parameters. Well you are doomed as I was… I knew it was editing was important, but it turned out to be the most important thing for me.

I thought i got a good plot, but i had no structure

I thought i got the structure then right, but then was shown the errors

I thought i cleared the errors, and then i was shown more errors.

By hits and trials i reached this stage, the manuscript at 101,700 words now and I would not reached here if it was not for the following activities

(1) Basic Editing – taking care of basic grammar

(2) Developmental Editing –  feedback – rework – feedback – rework

(3) Copy Editing

(4) Proof Reading

(5) Galley Reading

In total i spent closed to Rs. 200,000/- in the editing process, which in hindsight i have mixed experience. Will spend another 50K more to get a final guest editor to go through with impartial eyes for ther review and corrections. I will not say i was ill-advised, but rather not experienced. I did go in circles, but now I know the steps to be taken.

I will elaborate on details around editing in the next few posts!

Publishing Agencies – Sent to three other agencies in the last 24 hours.

Captain’s Log – Day 831: Two out of four publishing agencies contacted reading MS now

Its three days since the last post. Highlights:

  • Words down to 101,828 – that’s 10,518 words less from the original finished final draft (so-called)
  • Four publishers were mailed the synopsis and customized proposal: 1 rejection in 3 hours mentioning that it does not fit their publishing schedule, 2 of them requested for the completed manuscript in a day and 1 still awaiting a mail back
  • 6 other publishers format prepared to be sent out soon – to much busy… busy chal raha hai (update on that later)
  • Received feedback on my short – story on the short-fiction writing course attended. Some changes to be done there…. feedback was to short 😦 – either its good or its tooooo bad 🙂
  • Discussed/Mailed to a editor, who should do the final editing/proofreading. She is a author herself  and a great inspiration. Hope she keeps patience with me on my delays (her name later)

Today I will be going out to take to do a photo shoot for the book cover. Also details to the illustrators to be sent, and the final illustration will make the book look cracker jacker. Lot of things to close down. Wish I had help!!!

Logging off for now. Moving the bathing area now to get cleaned up…
