I saw the Amir Khan show promo – Satyameva Jayate, and thought about the word which is inscribed in our national emblem (Lion Capital of Asoka), in the base of our (India) national currency…. and in most of our hearts when we are young and in school.
The source of the two words is from Mundaka Upanishad which is a matra. The matra goes like:
satyameva jayate nānṛtaṁ
satyena panthā vitato devayānaḥ |
yenākramantyṛṣayo hyāptakāmā
yatra tat satyasya paramaṁ nidhānam ||
Which means:
Truth alone triumphs; not falsehood.
Through truth the divine path is spread out by which
the sages whose desires have been completely fulfilled,
reach where that supreme treasure of Truth resides.
Now coming back to the show, which is said to be an issue based chat show. The unique thing Amir is doing (among many uniqueness), having the show in multiple channel and languages. Even DD1 is going to telecast it. The best part till now I enjoyed and made me shed a tear is the title song.
The song written by Prasoon Joshi, is a love song for a nation. If you think of your loved one, it will still has a lot of meaning. The song is up at YouTube, and I have tried to do an English translation below. And thank you Tanveer on helping me out with Urdu translation J
With our nation again at the crossroads in terms of corruption, I hope our honorable politician hear the song and understand the meaning. Alas, I don’t think so.
