Just finished watching Amir TV show…. Satyamev Jayate. We knew he would be different, and we knew it would be a talk show and someone even said it would be like Oprah Winfrey. We it is still that… but it is Indian in heart.
The first show as about female feticide aka abortion. The show started with a couple of interviews of victims, and it was heart wrenching to hear it. In my mind, it came why doesn’t he speak about Punjab (great Punjabis), as the biggest sex ratio difference is there. And guess what… it came up.
Then I remembered a movie, Matrubhoomi: A Nation Without Women (2003), in which it was shown that there will come a time when there will be no women left in country if abortion continue. In that movie a single lady is married off to a group of men who are brothers, and in the first night the father have sex with the lady. It was a nerve wracking movie. And poof… Amir showed a village where the sex-ratio is so screwed, that the men don’t get any female to get married. And later told about location where woman are bought and sold for marriage.
The show had multiple elements to engage the social media generation on. It was nice to keep having a live interaction in SmJ (SatyaMev Jayate), FB page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Baramulla-Bomber/134048753296487#!/SatyamevJayate
My thoughts… we should have a show on Dowry and Big Marriages…. almost all of us are guilty of that. One reason people want boy is due to dowry reasons. Those who give dowry, take dowry, attend big marriages and want to have a big ceremony our self are guilty.
May be men (not boys), should take a vow not to take dowry and tell their parents that it is time!
And now for the cause:
Do you want the Rajasthan government to set up a fast track court to process female foeticide cases?”
Pledge your support to this cause by SMSing Y to 5782711
I eagerly look forward to the next show. I may be travelling out of the country for sometime, I need to find out ways where I can watch the missed show.
If Oprah had a ‘O’ in end of her show, Amir has an ‘a’ at the end. And this ‘a’, I hope is beginning of we the common people asking questions on ourselves. The more question we ask ourselves, the answers will be needed. None of us are bad inside, but the surrounding forces us to take decision, which we would not have done. Its time to stand up and be counted…. Lets all of us keeping asking questions and keep following up for the answers.
Other shows: Kashmir, Naxalite, Religion conversions. Leave no one now Mr. Khan. I am joining soon 😉
